
Not that something like this could possibly point to a catastrophic pole shift in the near future…. but a few interesting articles came out today, like this one from
Newsweek: Earth’s Inner Core May Have Started Rotating in the Opposite Direction
and MSN says: Earth’s Inner Core Rotation Appears to be Reversing
Flipboard says: Earth’s Inner Core Paused, Then Reversed its Spin (quoting and linking to the New York Times)

The article provides a poor perspective. It discusses a relative rotational drift/slippage, and a change in direction thereof. Egregiously, it doesn’t make clear what the order is of the maximum relative angular velocity, e.g. whether it’s degrees per century or degrees per hour.
Maybe the “spin of Earth core changes” story is to introduce acceptance of pole shift, since according to a widely distributed official theory, Earth magnetic pole is generated by liquid iron of the core.
