The Dzhanibekov Effect helps understand that a spinning body can perform an axial flip without losing momentum, but it doesn’t provide a sufficient basis for Earth’s regular 12,000 year cycle of catastrophism.
However, it is interesting that it’s a sign more folk are conceiving of the possibility of Earth performing an axial flip – that gives rise to crustal displacement (pole shift).
Equinoctial precession is the key, and the consequent oscillatory movement of the solar system (a displacement of the order of 1,000AU) between two magnetic fields is the root cause.
